The Moab Design is based in large part on the concept of a file manifestation (in the FRBR[18] sense of manifestation). In this view, a file’s uniqueness is defined by its bytestream content, which will have a unique signature (= file fixity). Multiple file instances might share the same content (and thus signature) even if they do not share the same name (filesystem path) and timestamp. In the version inventory files used in the Moab Design, a file manifestation consists of a combination of a signature and at least one file instance.
