The 21st century is proving a good time to be a druid or pagan. Almost 60,000 people in England and Wales described themselves as pagan in the 2011 census.Professor Ronald Hutton, a leading expert on paganism based at Bristol University, said he believed there were at least 100,000 practising pagans in Britain. He pointed out that only a million Church of England devotees go to mass every Sunday, "so paganism matters"Rollo Maughfling, who answers to the grand title archdruid of Stonehenge and Britain, said he believed the religion's green credentials were attractive to many younger people. "More and more people, especially younger ones, are being attracted to our way of doing things," he said. "People realise that we see the divine in nature and that is attractive to more and more people in these troubled times."
